Mark Spradley with Bob Ehrlich and family Today, and every day until Election Day, I will ask all Marylanders to support my candidacy for state Comptroller because I stand for traditional Republican principles: fiscal responsibility and personal freedom. • As the Comptroller, I would be fiscally conservative. Because of my background in the financial services industry, I would be guided by solid principles of financial management and oversight, prudent investment strategies, and economic development. I would work with the Governor and General Assembly to identify cost savings, revenue generation and cash acceleration opportunities to make the State’s financial operations more efficient.

    • I believe in the importance of fairness in tax assessment and collection - sound tax and fiscal policies will improve the business climate and make Maryland a better place for both employers and workers;
    • I believe in strong oversight of State contracts through the Board of Public Works, allowing State revenues to catch up with existing spending commitments by exercising fiscal discipline and containing spending;
    • I believe in applying appropriate investment management policies to the State’s pension systems to safeguard the future for teachers, government employees, state police ;

    • I believe in the importance of ensuring that our investments in education, transportation and the environment continue to pay dividends to future generations.
  • As Comptroller, I would support limiting the government’s involvement in people’s lives and instead empowering individuals and families. Personal freedom and individual responsibility are core Republican values. Therefore:
    • I believe in supporting primary, secondary and higher education and promoting financial literacy for people of all ages;
    • I believe in the importance of helping working families trying to finance a college education by promoting the Maryland College Savings Plan and Maryland’s community college system;

    • I believe in enhancing programs that help working people, particularly teachers and first responders (e.g., police, fire fighters and nurses), finance important milestones such as homeownership, college education and retirement.

    • My belief in personal freedom also extends to my inclusive perspective. I will be campaigning throughout the State – getting to know people in all of Maryland’s counties, and understanding the diversity that is vital to the continued growth and prosperity of Maryland.
    • I believe in building consensus; I trust that the democratic processes of debate and civil discourse will allow for respecting diverse opinions, while working together towards making Maryland better for everyone → “E Pluribus Unum” – out of many - one.

I pledge to abide by principles of honesty, fairness, respect, responsibility and compassion throughout my campaign. I am guided by codes of campaign ethics such as the Maine Code of Fair Campaign Practices, and encourage my opponents to similarly agree to run a substantive, issue-oriented campaign.
